Shah-e Do Shamshira Mosque Kabul
The Shah-e Do Shamshira Mosque, located in the heart of Kabul, near the crossroads of the same name, is one of the city’s most distinctive mosques. According to local belief, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, known as Shah-e Do Shamshira (“the King of Two Swords”), was martyred here — although there is no historical evidence to confirm this story.
The mosque was originally built during the reign of Amir Abdur Rahman Khan and later renovated during King Zahir Shah’s time. Its design combines Neoclassical and Ottoman influences, making it unique in Afghanistan. The mosque’s yellow façade and green dome give it a charming and recognizable appearance.
