Historical Forts of Bamiyan
Bamiyan is home to several ancient forts, the most prominent being Ghalghala Fort and Zargar Fort. These forts were constructed during various periods, including the Sassanid and Islamic eras, and served as strategic defensive and trade-control centers.
Ghalghala Fort, in particular, was destroyed during Genghis Khan’s invasion and is now celebrated as a symbol of local resistance and resilience. Excavations in these forts have revealed ancient pottery, weapons, and inscriptions, shedding light on the region’s military and cultural history.
