Historical Sites of Parwan Province
Ancient City of Bagram
The historic city of Bagram, located in the heart of Parwan Province near Kabul, is one of Afghanistan’s oldest centers of civilization. Throughout various historical periods—including the Achaemenid, Greco-Bactrian, Kushan, and Islamic eras—Bagram played a key role in trade, politics, and culture. Archaeological remains, decorative artifacts, and tools discovered here make Bagram one of the region’s most significant archaeological sites.

Ancient Temples of Bagram
Excavations at Bagram have revealed temples with Greek, Indian, and Buddhist architectural styles. These temples contained Buddha statues and other religious artifacts, reflecting the spread of Buddhism in the region. The diversity of these temples also highlights the cultural and religious plurality of Bagram in pre-Islamic times.

Bagram Library (Maktabah)
During archaeological digs, scholars discovered a collection of ancient texts in Greek, Sanskrit, and other languages. These documents were likely preserved in a study center or library and illustrate Bagram’s cultural and scholarly prominence in antiquity. Many of these artifacts are now housed in major museums around the world.

Historical Forts in Shakhnah District
In Shakhnah District, several historical forts and citadels remain. Typically built on strategic elevated sites, these structures served as military and defensive centers in various periods. Some forts, constructed with finely carved stones and traditional designs, are still standing today, bearing witness to the region’s turbulent yet rich history.

Ancient Tombs Around Bagram
Surrounding Bagram, numerous tombs of religious, political, and cultural figures have been identified, some dating back to pre-Islamic times. These tombs, featuring Islamic architectural elements and traditional decorations, offer insight into the religious and artistic heritage of Parwan.

قلعههای تاریخی ولسوالی جبلسراج
