Great Mosque of Herat (Jami Mosque)

The Great Mosque of Herat, also known as the Friday Mosque, is one of the oldest and largest mosques in Afghanistan. Its construction began in the 12th century under Sultan Ghiyath al-Din Ghorid, based on the advice of Imam Fakhr al-Din al-Razi. The mosque was later completed and beautifully expanded during the Timurid era.
Famous for its turquoise tilework, crystal-like domes, and traditional Khorasani architecture, it is a masterpiece of Islamic art. Located in the northeastern part of Herat, the mosque features 460 domes, 130 arcades, 444 pillars, and 5 grand gates. Its spacious courtyard measures 82 by 59.5 meters and continues to host Friday and Eid prayers to this day.
