Minar-e Elm wa Jahl Kabul

The Minaret of Knowledge and Ignorance is a symbolic monument located on the foothills of Shir Darwaza Mountain in the Deh Mazang area of Kabul. It was built during the reign of King Amanullah Khan to commemorate soldiers who lost their lives during his reform-era conflicts.
Its name symbolizes the struggle between enlightenment and ignorance in Afghanistan’s history. Inscriptions engraved on the monument list the names of fighters and brief accounts of the events of that time.
