Ghazargah Shrine (Ghazargah Sharif) Herat

The Ghazargah Shrine, located 4.5 kilometers northeast of Herat, at the foot of Zanjirgah Mountain, is the mausoleum of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari, the great Sufi mystic and poet of the 11th century.
With its beautiful architecture and spiritual atmosphere, the shrine is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in Herat. The complex was rebuilt during the Timurid period, particularly under Shah Rukh Mirza, and later expanded by Amir Ali Shir Nawa’i, who also created the nearby Ghazargah Garden (Bagh-e Naw) with two elegant pavilions.
Today, the shrine remains a center of spirituality, history, and traditional architecture, attracting both pilgrims and visitors from around the world.
